Wrinkles and lines on the face
The wrinkles and lines on our faces are the result of ageing, lifestyle, sun damage, genetics and use or overuse of facial muscles. Smoking, hormones and stress can make wrinkles worse and lead to premature wrinkling. Wrinkles which occur with ageing are caused by a variety of reasons and the treatment is assessed based on the cause. We assess these factors during your initial consultation and offer advice on ways to maintain your skin in the best possible way. However you cannot influence all these factors. The injection of a purified neurotoxin has a local effect of reducing muscle action and relaxing the muscle smoothing out the skin. The injection treatment has been used for over 20 years on thousands of patients to treat many neurological and eye disorders as well as reduction of wrinkles. The injections are prescription drugs which should only be used under medical supervision. The injection works by blocking nerve transmission between the nerve endings and the muscle fibres around the injection site to relax the muscle so that they don't contract. The untreated facial muscles contract in the normal way, allowing normal facial expression to be unaffected. The aim is to break the habit of frowning.
Over a year or two the excessive frowning habit can be broken. The commonly affected areas include forehead lines, frown lines between the eye brows and crows feet at the corners of the eyes.
